Post Title: I feel very fortunate in my life that I get to do what I love...
By AaronSternDrums, Feed Name: Aspire to Inspire
Preview: I feel very fortunate in my life that I get to do what I love for a living. I've been playing drums for bands and artists since I graduated high school almost 10 years ago and It has given me a chance to travel and experience the world. It was only in the last few years that I began working towards getting my degree while still touring year round. Thankfully I can bring together my day job and ....

Preview:   "Move with the flow. Don't fight the current. Resist nothing. Let life carry you. Don't try to carry it." Oprah Winfrey   Yes, you have to be a male comfortable enough in his own masculinity in order to quote Oprah on your blog.  The words above couldn't ring more true for me than they do right now. I tend to get a little anxious when I am not in full control of what is happening and ....

Post Title: And so it begins...#cmc11
By AaronSternDrums, Feed Name: Aspire to Inspire
Preview: Hello my fellow MOOCers. My name is Aaron Stern and I'm a 27-year-old touring musician whom has decided to go back to school to get my degree while still touring the world with my band D.R.U.G.S. This is my first experience in a MOOC and admittedly, I've felt quite lost as to what exactly it is that I should be doing. Then yesterday I had a small breakthrough in discovering what exactly this ....

Post Title: “Lifelong learning is a necessity.”
By johngriffin0928, Feed Name: Forever Learning
Preview: “In a bygone era, the skills you learned in school could carry you through your career. But today, lifelong learning is a necessity. Americans have to understand that education doesn't end when they graduate from college. That is when it begins.” So writes Vivek Wadhwa in the Washington Post in an article titled “On jobs, [...]

Title: The R.I.G.H.T. Way to Give Feedback
Preview: Being an online English tutor, course participant and facilitator, I have come to realize that knowing how to give constructive feedback is very important. To help my students improve their performance and self-confidence, to motivate and interact with others, we need to give constructive feedback continuously. I came across this article "Five Steps to Constructive Feedback" by Todd Smith. Hope .......

Title: How are you doing ...
Preview: now that we are into the second week of CMC11, a MOOC?  Small bites of what you find interesting is a good way to ease your way into the sea of information.  Several blogs have been started and entries posted .. why not start yours now and use it to reflect on what you are experiencing.  It will  be different for each person, and yet, there will be some common threads.  It is easier to .......

Title: Re: Connecting to be connected? #CMC11 MOOC
Preview: Hi Chrissy, I truly enjoyed your photo voices. Good question you pose "is connecting to be connected the answer?" I actually find that the more I get "connected", I tend to try to disconnect. I agree with Retsam I KNOW that I am connected to a higher being, and I do not like things that interrupt that connection. Yet, there are those who must stay connected just to function on a daily basis. ....

Title: Re: my issue and advise on The Content in the MOOC
Preview: Hi Bernard,Thanks for sharing your thoughts. You made me think about expectation and contribution. When we love something unconditionally, we would contribute to it without expecting to get anything from it. Without expectation, we would be more grateful. I believe in the law of attraction and everything happens for a reason. So even swimming in this MOOC ocean, we would attract those who we ....

Title: The loneliness of the MOOC member swimming in an ocean of undifferentiated texts
Preview: It is one thing to say that we are not expected to read everything (surely like everyday life itself) but it is quite another to be faced with an ocean of material but no tools to sift and select. In our everyday world we come to material from other material. We enter conversations as parts of other conversations. There is a sense of continuity. Perhaps we filter by political or cultural ....

Title: Re: Introducing Yourself
Preview: Hey everyone, My name is Toni and I am a 28 year old mother to a two year old son. I am currently attending Empire State College and was referred to here by my mentor. I am really interested in this MOOC but it is very new for me. It seems like most have a good handle on what is going on but I am learking behind the scenes trying to figure everything out. Hopefully I get the hang of everything ....

Title: Re: Multi(ple): literacies
Preview: Thank you ~ not that it feels that organized much of the time. Not well enough to find this again right off.... but at last. An overlooked feed among the multitude ~ more a matter of persistence, some might call it obsession though. I'm making notes on comparative moocs (or comparative moocquing). The comparative habit is hard to break. I'll share them when they make sense. I picked ....

Title: Re: The R.I.G.H.T. Way to Give Feedback
Preview: Hi Sam, Thank you for starting a conversation about feedback and Ilyse for focusing on the language of feedback. I agree with the points made and especially that the language we use is very important when providing feedback. I actually suggest to our academics to avoid any negative statements. Be positive and forward facing throughout. Negative feedback can be very demotivating for all of us. I ....

Preview: Hi ilyse,Yeah! I have been using that and-to-but technique for talking to myself and others, too! I found that's extremely powerful. Whenever I want to say a "but", I would think further about it, change it to a "and" or simply drop that part. It helps me to be much more supportive and positive! Thanks for sharing and reminding.Love and Light,

Title: Re: The R.I.G.H.T. Way to Give Feedback
Preview: Good one! I have one thing to add, taught to me by a wise friend. Todd Smith's article talks about the need to be kind and gentle when offering feedback that might hurt someone's feelings, to try to include something positive as well as offering the correction or criticism. What my friend has taught me is to use the word "and" rather than the word "but".For example, rather than:"Well ....

Title: Re: Connecting to be connected? #CMC11 MOOC
Preview: I like the idea of using poems as tight distillations of our feelings and thoughts. I guess they can both  have a transience to them in capturing a moment or be highly circumspect and rehearsed - or anything in between!  I have also been exploring this after seeing Chrissi's photovoices and also reading about using multimedia for new forms of narrative. I am in the ....
