By wolfinthenight13, Feed Name: wolfinthenight13
Preview: So with the heat rising for this years presidential election I thought to myself, maybe it”s about time I learn a thing or two… I am old enough to vote and registered, yet I have no interest in politics. With the state of America and rising troubles in the world I figured I should slowly [...]

By Richele Young, Feed Name: Creativity & Multicultural Communication

I thought it was a pretty interesting interview considering the idea of connectivism is brand new to me. Siemens talked about the important of transitioning our thinking about learning and knowledge to one that is based on connections. This type of learning ....

Post Title: Digital Storytelling: Pitcher Plants
By Brandy_Erdmann, Feed Name: On Creativity & Multicultural Communication
Preview: One of the first courses I took from Empire State College was a college writing course from professor Jeff Cahan. Following the course conclusion, Jeff suggested I take his creative nonfiction course the following semester. Even though I was regularly complemented on my writing, I still felt full of self doubt regarding my writing. I felt my writing was not very good or interesting and that a ....

Post Title: Chris Staley on the Ability to Teach Creativity
By Brandy_Erdmann, Feed Name: On Creativity & Multicultural Communication
Preview: The following video asks whether creativity can be taught. Penn State Laureate Chris Staley suggests that creativity is associated with fearlessness. We are born with creativity but lose it over time as we become fearful of the consequences of our actions. If we go into a project without the worries of how we may be judged or fear of impending failure, we can reignite our creativity and use it ....

Post Title: Revolutionizing Education
By wolfinthenight13, Feed Name: wolfinthenight13
Preview: RSA Animate – Changing Education Paradigms (by theRSAorg) I absolutely LOVE this video. I hated school. Everything I was taught was complete trash that I will never use in real life. The things we use the most are English and basic math skills. My art, photography, and English classes were my favorite. I think all [...]

Post Title: What's At Play Here? #CMC11
By daleydose, Feed Name: dayleydosier
Preview: I have been thinking over the last few day's and certainly since I found out how this class works, how to make my grand entry as a MOOCer. I have even taken some time to peruse the blogs to become more familiar with the voices that reside here, in the hopes for inspiration. Needless to say, I am still thinking, hence the question; what's at play here? Or better yet; what's at work ....

Title: Digital Storytelling: Pitcher Plants
Preview: I think it's a great idea sharing your writing from another class! I am a writer and avid reader, and I think it's great to try and lose that fear of "not being good enough". I really liked your piece on pitcher plants. I think it will be refreshing to have your posts to read through and I actually really like your writing style. The ending was perfect. I myself have a minor case of bi-.......

Title: "Digging in the Sand Box"
Preview: Hi, I'm also taking this course through SUNY and am in my final year (yes!). Are you having an easier time figuring out the layout of this course? You don't have to do ALL the readings for every week, unless you want to. I think what is more important is to pick a topic or two or three, whatever, that you are interested in and start talking about it, that way other people will start .......

Title: Chris Staley on the Ability to Teach Creativity
Preview: Hi Brandy, Liked the Chris Staley video and the idea that creativity can be taught. Notions of fear and failure are good subjects to bring up as they honour a process that sometimes put the creative person in active opposition to how they are "expected" to understand the world. This isn't always an easy place to be. I wish Staley had used a deeper example of stretching boundaries than the .......

Title: What is a MOOC? And what direction would you like to see it go?
Preview: There are several different types of MOOCs, so for the sake of this discussion, let's stick to the connectivist variety (the designation variety of CMC11). HERE is a sort of compendium of thoughts on MOOCs to get us started  ~ note that the first video is one you may have already seen somewhere :) What other explanations or definitions have you found?  Can you describe what a .......

Title: Week 2 Craziness
Preview: I was going down the list of information / readings for week 2 when I got to the link "Connection Not Content." It made me laugh. I am definitely the student who is used to reading all of the information and so caught up in trying to learn everything and then "write a serious blog reflection about it." It's habit. This link made me take a step back to RELAX. I have been trying to catch up .......

Title: Re: How can I show the best of myself?
Preview: I use sunglasses for when it's possibly going to rain or in the winter. when the sky is white that hurts my eyes more than sunlight, so Carol there are some other's like you! And I read an article recently that if you force yourself to smile for 5 minutes, you will automatically become happier. So if you are feeling down, make yourself smile and hopefully it will work for you

Title: Re: How can I show the best of myself?
Preview: Do you smile while you are working?  while you are writing? while you are talking on the telephone?  If not, try to do so for a week and let us know if you think, see, feel any different.  And, I sometimes wear sunglasses in the winter ... when the sun bounces off the snow and is so bright, it hurts my eyes ... I wonder if I am someone different then?Cheers,
