Post Title: Designing a Comment Scraper for MOOCs (and other animals)
By VanessaVaile, Feed Name: MOOC Madness
Preview: Reblogged from Connection not Content: I published the daily output of a basic Comment Scraper program during the last week of the Change11 MOOC. Since then there has been some further interest and I have been happy to make the original program (in Python 2.7) available on request. I have now written a new and [...]

By cyeager, Feed Name: CMC11
Preview: We are a smaller number of active participants than in other time spans of this MOOC and this has created some challenges, asking for some serious CPS (creative problem solving ... as outlined and discussed in several weekly sessions and pages of CMC11).A few credit seeking folks have been very active in attempting to generate some interest on topics and engagement of others ... duly noted and ....

Post Title: CMC11 Reflection
By wolfinthenight13, Feed Name: wolfinthenight13
Preview: After replying to a post in the discussions area, I felt like posting my thoughts so far on the course. I’ve made some general posts about this, confusion in the beginning, and just some general thoughts on what we’ve been learning. But I feel it’s time to speak my mind. If any of you knew [...]

Post Title: Classical Music
By wolfinthenight13, Feed Name: wolfinthenight13
Preview: Just now watched the video, thanks for that Carol! Those kids were so darn cute. I absolutely loved the idea. It reminded me how much I actually do like a lot of classical music. The idea to bend your favorite lyrics to the old “beats” is an inventive and fun idea. If this is how [...]

Title: Creative development ...
Preview: I don't want you to feel lonely Carol.   I think that Open Educational Resources that allow for individualized self-directed learning should be encouraged for everyone and for the most part need not be attached to old higher education structures.   But, there is a big role for the use of OER's and other tools to enable students to fill in gaps in prior independent .......

Title: Re: Creative development ...
Preview: I had a discussion with our Education Division about the relative merits of having the students arrange their own field experiences versus the department being in control. The consensus among faculty was that they know the students' needs and they know the local school districts, so they're better placed to make a match. My response was that we are all in charge of our own education, ....

Title: Re: Creative development ...
Preview: I've been thinking about this post for several days and I've come to the conclusion, that teachers and other officials are the reason we worry so much about our grades. We are pressured to always do our best, we have to be smarter than anyone else to get anywhere in life. You want us to be able to learn in a relaxed way? Then get rid of grades completely. Grades are stupid. Some ....

Title: Re: Stay a ?
Preview: Since I just finished the longest single project of my life...the writing of a comprehensive textbook for Pearson Publishing, I have some thoughts on textbooks...they are primarily background materials.  The author should provide you with some exercises and lots of examples, but your instructor should provide you with some that are focused on your course or better yet s/he should ask you to ....

Title: Re: Confused: Deciding for yourself
Preview: Hi  I am a teacher at Empire State College and occasionally drop into this MOOC because learning new things is one of the ways I have fun.   I have a couple of thoughts and suggestions.  Carol Yeager and Betty Lawrence are among the kindest people I know so don't be afraid to ask them questions.  Second, I know that they just want you to learn new things and have ....
